Michael Brady, Executive Director
Brady has extensive experience in operations and strategic planning as well as managing high profile contracts and engagements. He has successfully navigated the New York City and State government, business and civic sectors to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in public-sector funding, gain project approvals for major land use projects and helped businesses seeking to expand, improve or launch in the City of New York. Brady was the Master Planner for the South Bronx waterfront for the New York State Department of State. Currently he leads the Third Avenue Business Improvement District. In his current capacity Michael repositions distressed and undervalued residential, industrial, and mixed-use properties for development.
Brady specializes in organizational management, land use, industrial, and environmental policy. He has over a decade of experience in vacant and underutilized land re-development as well as in-depth knowledge of brownfield policy. Brady leans on his experience in governmental relations to provide the leadership and expertise to forge and sustain relationships with City, State, and Federal policy makers and influencers while also implementing comprehensive legislative and budgetary goals.
Mr. Brady holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Manhattan College, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from New York University, where he served as a Senior Clark Fellow. Additionally, he holds certifications from Harvard University and Columbia University.
Javier Medrano, Deputy Director
Javier Medrano is Deputy Director at the Third Avenue Business Improvement District. He leads and supports the formulation of policy, strategies and programs to accelerate private sector development and public-partnership for the Third Avenue BID. He is coordinating the expansion of the Third Avenue BID which will triple the organizations budget and increase services to local businesses.
Javier leads and supports the formulation of policy, strategies and programs to accelerate private sector development and public-private partnerships (PPP) in the South Bronx. Additionally, Javier monitors the investment climate in South Bronx mand engages all levels of government and other stakeholders in policy dialogue on reforms to enhance the incentive framework for increased private participation. Javier works directly with government, private sector investors and financial institutions within a framework of general policies, principles and goals.
Prior to this position, Javier was the Healthy Initiative Policy Adviser at Banana Kelly Community Improvement Association, where he addressed the damaging and disproportionate health impact of low income families in the South Bronx. He is
currently part of the Advisory Board of The HIV League. Javier holds an MAIR from the University of London and a BA in Political Science from Appalachian State University
Cate Evans, Director of Programs
Cate Evans graduated from UC San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in international relations, focusing on history and political science. With a passion for community improvement and strategic planning, working with the Third Avenue Business Improvement District and the South Bronx at the HUB is a dream come true.
Originally from northern California, she moved to New York City in 2016 after falling in love with the culture and lifestyle of the Big Apple. As BID Program Director, oversees public space programming, real estate and small business development programs, sanitation, and public event programs. Cate seeks to create long term, sustainable programs to benefit the local community as well as developing a deeper understanding of the policies and programs that drive change in New York City and the Bronx in particular. With this toolbox of skills and understanding, she will be able to advocate for local communities and help to keep the local culture of the South Bronx from being marginalized moving forward.
Andréa Mahee, Chief of Staff
Ms. Mahee plans and directs all administrative, financial, and operational activities for the organization’s Executive Director. She organizes and prioritizes critical issues and required information for the executive to facilitate efficient decision making and acts as a point of contact or gatekeeper between top management and other stakeholders. Ms. Mahee is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the BID office. From administering onboarding orientation, to notary public duties, to daily interfacing with merchants and property owners, to executing special events.
Prior to being with the BID, Ms. Mahee was a Land Use Associate in the economic development department at the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation, proceeded by being the Development Associate raising funds and curating large special events for one of the Bronx’s largest non-profit organizations. Ms. Mahee holds a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and a certification in non-profit leadership. She is an avid sailboat racer.
Selamawit Yemeru, Business Development Associate
Selamawit Yemeru holds a MS in Design and Urban Ecologies from the New School and has a background in environmental and social justice. She holds a bachelor degree in Environmental Studies and has worked for NYC’s Department of Parks & Recreation for a year and a half, helping to conserve valuable parkland for low-income and minority communities in the Bronx. She is currently the Business Development Associate at the Third Avenue Business Improvement District.
